Hamid group’s Asad Manzoor elected LHCBA president

. Strict security arrangements had been made for the annual election

LAHORE/MULTAN: Asad Manzoor Butt of Hamid Khan Professional Group was elected President Lahore High Court Bar Association (LHCBA) in the bar election on Saturday.

Asad Manzoor got 6,195 votes. His opponent Saqib Akram Gondal of Independent Asma Jahangir Group secured 5,768 votes. Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) lawyers supported Asad Manzoor in the election.

Qadir Bakhsh Chahal was elected Secretary with 7,119 votes. His opponent Qasim Ijaz Samra could get only 3,553 votes. 

Mian Sardar Ali Gahlan was elected Vice President by getting 3,344 votes, while Abdul Rahman Ranjha got 2,998 votes. Falk Naz Gill was elected Finance Secretary with 5,503 votes.

After his victory, Bar President Asad Manzoor Butt said they would not allow the rights of any Pakistani, including Imran Khan, to be usurped.

In the Multan High Court Bar Association (MHCBA) election here on Saturday, Malik Sajjad Haider Maitla won the president’s slot by securing 4,147 votes while his rival Rana Arif Kamal Noon secured 1,905 votes.

The election was held in a peaceful environment. A total of 11,937 voters were registered while 6,052 votes were polled with a 50pc turnout. Strict security arrangements had been made for the annual election. More than 500 policemen performed duties. One SP, two DSPs and five SHOs supervised security.
