Many food outlets sealed
LAHORE
Punjab Food Authority (PFA) has started a campaign against sweet shops and manufacturers across the city to ensure hygiene and quality standards and sealed many outlets for violations on Thursday.
PFA Director Operations Ayesha Mumtaz along with her team raided Baba Inayat Sweet Shop at Begum Kot in Ravi Town and sealed it for preparing and storing sweets at unhygienic and dirty area. The freezers were broken, workers had no medical and there were no labels on the sweets regarding their preparation and expiry dates, an official said, adding another raid was carried out at Shahbaz Hotel and it was also sealed for using rotten vegetables and other edibles.
Team of Samanabad Town sealed Khurram Sweets and Bukhari Naan Shop at Arif Chowk for using blue plastic drums, open drainage, presence of flies and using washroom as production area of sweets. Other teams of PFA issued strict warning notices to Usama Foods in Kot Lakhpat area, Malik Sweet in Lohari Gate area and Bhai Jan Sweets at Lohari Gate for various violations of food laws. A heavy fine was also imposed on the violators.
overcharging: The City District Government Lahore (CDGL) continued its campaign against profiteers during which price control magistrates arrested 85 people for overcharging on Thursday.
The CDGL officials said 677 raids were conducted across the city and price control magistrates arrested 85 people out of which 33 were sent to jail after hearing them on the spot. Rs 17,000 fine was imposed on the profiteers.
PhD awarded: Hafiz Muhammad Khurshid Ahmad Qadiri, a lecturer of Government College University, Lahore, has been awarded a PhD degree in Islamic Studies by Minhaj University, Lahore.
He completed his research on the topic “A Critical Study of Abdullah Yusuf Ali’s Translation and Commentary of the Holy Quran and its Effects on Posterity” under the supervision of Prof Dr Sultan Shah, chairperson of GCU Department of Arabic and Islamic Studies.
