Missing in parliament
It has been almost a month since the Panama leaks have surfaced in which none other than the family of our parliamentary leader and prime minister has been named, but it is ironic that Nawaz Sharif has not attended or addressed parliament since then. The core of democracy is the belief that each and every national issue is discussed, debated and resolved in parliament. This has also been the stance taken by the PML-N, the PPP and other parties representing the National Assembly since the dharna politics of 2014.
Addressing the nation or launching a mass contact campaign is done by someone who lacks mandate. In a vibrant democracy like ours, parliament is the true representative of the people. It should always be ‘Mr Speaker’ rather than ‘mere hum watno’. We have not heard that from the honourable prime minister yet.
