Islamabad:The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has reduced supply of water to four residential sectors of Islamabad to half following start of annual de-silting work at Khanpur canal.
The civic body on Wednesday announced that supply of water from Khanpur Dam would remain suspended for all consumers till end of this month.
The water supply directorate of CDA would make alternate arrangements for sectors G-10, G-11, F-10 and F-11 from Simly Dam and Sangjani Water Works. However, the civic body would have to opt for water rationing for these sectors till completion of de-silting work at Khanpur canal.
Now these sectors would receive two million gallons per day (MGD) of water instead of four MGD of water for the next two weeks. "In order to ensure sufficient supply of water to residents during the summer season, the de-silting work at Khanpur Dam will be completed by end of this month," the spokesman of CDA said.
Owing to insufficient rain and continuous dry weather, the water level at Simly Dam and Khanpur Dam has already reduced by 50 and 21 per cent respectively. As a result, the supply of water from Khanpur Dam to Islamabad had already decreased from 10 MGD of water to four MGD of water.
In view of reduction in water supply to Islamabad, the water tanker service of CDA has also been put on altert to address complaints of consumer in shortest possible time. It has also been learnt owners of private tankers while taking advantage of the situation have also increased their rates by 50 per cent.
