Trio opens firing on traffic warden

LAHORE :Three unidentified suspects reportedly opened firing at a traffic warden for stopping them in Samanabad on Tuesday.

Reportedly, traffic warden Sardar was on duty when he signalled to stop there motorcyclists for violation. The suspects started exchange of harsh words. They were later so frustrated that they opened firing at the warden and fled from the scene.

The warden miraculously remained unhurt. A case was registered against the accused persons. Police said that they were searching for them. CTO Lahore Ammara Athar said that the offenders will be held accountable and dealt strictly according to law.

Man receives burn injuries: A 25-year-old man received burn injuries in a fire incident in a house in Johar Town near Shadiwal Chowk. Reportedly, the fire broke out due to short circuit and the victim received burn injuries on his both legs.

In another fire incident, valuables were gutted in a cinema in Qila Gujjar Singh. The rescue teams extinguished the fire.

Youth dies in road accident: A 24-year-old youth has died in a road accident in Shalimar. The victim identified as Mohsin Rasheed, a Gujrat resident was riding a bike when he collided with a truck and died. His body was moved to morgue. In another incident, a factory bus collided with metro bus station iron barrier. Reportedly, the driver lost control of the vehicle due to its failed brakes. However, no loss of life or injury was reported in the incident.

45 wardens promoted: Punjab IGP Dr Usman Anwar has said traffic police officials are the ambassador of the police department on roads, all traffic police officers should perform their duties with good morals, diligently and sincerity.

The IG directed that the reward of welfare and promotion measures should be transferred to the citizens in the form of better performance and service delivery.

Dr Usman Anwar said that the work of upgrading the traffic police offices across the province including Lahore is being completed rapidly. He expressed these views while addressing the rank pinning ceremony of 45 senior traffic wardens who were promoted at the Central Police Office. The promoted senior traffic wardens and their families participated in the ceremony. Dr Usman Anwar and other police officers pinned the ranks to the senior traffic wardens on their departmental promotions and congratulated all the senior traffic wardens.
