Seized goods worth millions destroyed

LAHORE : World Customs Organisation (WCO) has declared 2024 a dedicated year for ‘Customs engaging traditional and new partners with purpose.’

The International Customs Day celebration at Wagah Border marked a pivotal moment, featuring Akhuwat CEO Amjad Saqib as the chief guest.

The ceremony saw the combustion of confiscated goods worth millions of rupees. Among the incinerated items were bottles of alcohol, cigarettes, blister drugs, and cosmetics.

Chief Collector Mubasher Baig emphasised the collective commitment of various agencies to thwart smuggling activities. He announced punishments for employees involved in theft within the department, underscoring a zero-tolerance towards malpractices.

The event witnessed the presence of key figures, including Collector Customs Enforcement Lahore Mateen Alam, Collector Faisalabad Saeed Wattoo, and Collector Customs Appraisement Munib Serwar.
