Profligacy
This letter refers to the article ‘CSR for growth’ (January 13, 2024) by Mansoor Ahmad. The observation of the writer that our economy has reached a point where the state would need the support of the private sector in upgrading the infrastructure, etc is out of context and contrary to ground realities. Our corporate sector is corrupt and bankrupt. It depends on government favours, subsidies, and bank loans.
Some public-private infrastructure projects are already fraught with corruption and cheating. The real problem of our economy is the squandering of resources by elected representatives. There is a need to stop wasteful expenditure in the first place. Otherwise, the generation of more income will not do any good for the economy.
