Dubious resolution

Last week, a resolution was moved in the Senate to postpone the February 8, 2024 elections, due to the ongoing law-and-order problems and inclement weather. The resolution was passed without a quorum and none of the senators in attendance pointed this out. The passage of a resolution by a minuscule number of senators is not significant at all.

Dubious resolution

What could, however, be important is whether this small bunch of senators got a nod from the right quarters. In any event, in my opinion, the postponement of elections at this late stage, will only increase the uncertainty in the country. As far as the security situation is concerned, it must be noted that in 2008 and 2013, the security situation was arguably worse than it is today but we still had elections.
