Officials said on Thursday the DIG office released a list of blacklisted police personnel, who had been ordered to report to the headquarters. Moreover, 14 policemen and officers have also been suspended while all 74 personnel and officers have been shifted to B-Company.

They added that these are the police officers against whom complaints were received from IR (information report) and the Internal Accountability Bureau and the public. No operational or field work will be taken from all these police personnel.

The B Company was formed by the Sindh IGP and Karachi’s additional IG. It has also been launched in East Range where blacklisted officials will be closed (confined to the headquarters), and this step is a clear proof that the process of accountability in the police is going on and will continue and action on public complaints is a top priority, said DIG Mahesar.

Earlier, taking action against police failure to control the law and order situation, Karachi police chief Additional Inspector General of Police Khadim Hussain Rind had suspended the Sohrab Goth sub-divisional police officer (SPDO), who was of the DSP rank, the Sohrab Goth station house officer (SHO) and athe Site Super Highway SHO over allegations of patronising criminals within their jurisdiction, resulting in several crime incidents in the area.

Officials said Rind had also ordered a departmental inquiry against 15 SHOs of the Karachi Range. Moreover, eight head constables of the East Range and 21 other police personnel have been suspended. Seven head constables and eight officers of the West Range, and one head constable of South Range and 11 other personnel have also been suspended after charges of sponsoring crime against them were proved before the additional IG.

Officials said departmental action had been taken against a total of 82 police officers. The suspension orders have also been issued for six personnel of the CIA, Traffic and Security Zone. In a message to the Karachi police, Additional IG Rind said officers who had been supporting crime would have to face strict departmental action for misuse of authority and there would be no concessions.

Another suspension order issued by the city police chief’s office regarding misconduct and departmental proceedings reads: “The following police officers and officials of Karachi Range posting shown against each are hereby placed under suspension with immediate effect, pending DP (departmental proceeding) into their conduct. On suspension, they are shifted to Police Headquarters Garden, Karachi Range suspend Company.”
