City police chief orders extra security steps after Mardan attack
Karachi
The Karachi police chief directed the force on Tuesday to adopt extra security measures over security concerns arising out of a suicide attack that occurred in Mardan earlier in the day.
A man was killed and 17 others suffered injuries when a terrorist walked into a government office building in KPK’s Mardan district and blew himself up.
The spokesman said Additional Inspector General Mushtaq Mehar directed all zonal DIGs to tell their district SSPs, SPs, SDPOs and SHOs to ensure extraordinary measures in the city after the Mardan terror strike.
The officials were also told to ensure the presence of personnel in their areas to monitor all banned organisations and criminal elements and to keep under surveillance all sectarian groups. They were directed to take concrete security steps at all government and sensitive installations, besides ordering mobile and motorcycle patrolling in their areas.
Foreigners held
The paramilitary force said in a statement on Tuesday some foreign elements were involved in creating uncertainty in Karachi.
The spokesman for the Sindh Rangers said it had transpired that some foreigners and those who were residing in city illegally were behind the recent incidents of lawlessness.
The Rangers also requested any citizen with information about people residing illegally in their neigbourhood to approach the nearest Rangers post or contact them on Helpline 1101 or email them at help@pakistanrangerssindh.org.
Five bandits held
Paramilitary soldiers conducted raids in Eidu Goth and Korangi areas, and arrested five suspected criminals, including bandits, with weapons.
Investigations into the allegations against the five men have been launched.
