Dow University awards 2,192 degrees at 13th convocation

The Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS) on Thursday awarded 2,192 degrees, including 22 MPhils and three PhDs, to students at their 13th convocation at the Ojha Campus.

Addressing the students, DUHS Vice Chancellor Prof Saeed Quraishy expressed pride over the university ranking among the top 600 universities worldwide, attributing it to the collective efforts of everyone.

Prof Quraishy emphasised the significance of dedication and perseverance in the pursuit of education, and urged the graduates to serve humanity with their acquired knowledge.

He highlighted the university’s focus on research and development, citing the establishment of the Genomic Centre as a crucial milestone achieved through collaboration with the federal government. He announced the initiation of the Dow Cancer Centre’s operations in April, providing comprehensive treatment for various types of cancer.

Dow Medical College Principal and convocation committee chairperson Prof Saba Sohail encouraged the graduates to take pride in their academic accomplishments considering the past years spent on education as crucial in preparing them for future challenges.

DUHS Registrar Dr Ashar Afaq administered the oath of commitment to humanity’s unbiased service to the MBBS graduates. The Best Graduate Award was presented to MBBS student Zeenat Hadi. Gold, silver and bronze medals were awarded to the best graduates from various institutes and colleges affiliated with the DUHS.

Three hundred and twenty-one of the 2,192 successful candidates belonged to the Dow Medical College, 143 to the Dow International Medical College, one to the Sindh Medical College, 47 to the Dow Dental College and 52 to the Dow International Dental College.

Dr Ishratul Ebad Institute of Oral Health Sciences had 104 graduates, Pharm-D 137, DPT 95, BS occupational therapy 29, BSPO 12, PPDPT (repeater) one, BS medical technology 96, post-RN BS nursing 496, BS nursing (generic) 186 and post-RN BSc nursing (repeater) seven.

Post-RN BSM had 14 graduates, BS dental care (professional) 33, BBA 116, BS radiological technology 19, BS nutrition 29, BS biotechnology 93, MPhil 22, PhD three, MD one, MS four, D-Derm 10, DMRD five, Diploma in Echocardiography six and DMJ three.

DLO had one graduate, DCH two, MSc DE three, MSN nine, MSPH (public health) one, MPH (public health) four, MS BE five, MS APT five, MHPE 12, MDS (dental sciences) 18, MScDS three, MBA 24 and EMBA 20.

Also present at the event were Pro VC Prof Nazli Hossain, International Medical College Principal Prof Zeba Haq, Controller of Examinations Dr Fuad Sheikh, faculty members, and students and their parents.
