Imran, Fawad again not indicted; hearing adjourned till 19th
ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) Wednesday again could not indict PTI Founding Chairman Imran Khan and Fawad Chaudhry in the contempt of the Election Commission and Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) case.
A four-member bench of the ECP, headed by Sindh ECP member Nisar Ahmad Durrani, heard the case in the Adiala Jail, owing to security reasons concerning PTI’s founding chairman and ex-premier.
The Lahore High Court (LHC) has formed a bench already to hear a plea filed by Imran against the ECP’s decision to hold his trial in jail. In August last, the LHC had barred the electoral body from issuing a decision in the contempt case but allowed it to continue the trial.
According to reports, Imran and Fawad’s spouses, Bushra Bibi and Hiba Fawad present in the jail during the hearing of the contempt of the ECP and CEC case.
The contempt notices were issued to Imran, Fawad and Asad Umar in August last year for allegedly using intemperate and contemptuous language against the electoral body as well as the CEC.
Talking to reporters outside the jail, Fawad’s wife said that the indictment proceedings against PTI founding chairman and her spouse had been adjourned till December 19.
