Journalists Panel again clean sweeps CRA annual elections

The annual elections of the Crime Reporters Association (CRA) witnessed an intense competition between the United and Journalists panels. Polling for the CRA’s annual body commenced at 12pm on Sunday at the Karachi Press Club (KPC) and continued until 6pm, seeing a remarkable 95 per cent voter turnout.

In the presidential race Kashif Hashmi secured victory with 92 votes, defeating his opponent Mairaj Akhtar, who bagged 67 votes. For the vice president position Nadeem Ahmed received the highest number of votes (112), while the opposing candidate Kamran Minhas received 47 votes.

Rehan Khan Chishti reclaimed his position as secretary for the second consecutive year after getting 100 votes, defeating Kashif Mushtaq, who bagged 60 votes. After a tough contest for the joint secretary role, Rajab Ali emerged victorious with 81 votes, while Fayyaz Younus secured 79 votes.

Atif Raza triumphed in the treasurer’s election with 109 votes, defeating his competitor Ahsan Abbasi, who gained 46 votes. Akram Qureshi secured the information secretary position with 101 votes, outperforming Malik Aftab, who secured 57 votes.

Asad Ali (102 votes), Kamran Jalil (100 votes), Ibad Usmani (98 votes), Saulat Jafri (95 votes), Salik Shah (94 votes), and Azfar Waqas and Nadeem Arain (91 votes each) emerged as successful candidates for governing body members.

CRA spokesman Akram Qureshi said the election committee consisting of Imtiaz Khan Faran, Shams Kerio and Kafiluddin Faizan officially declared the results. The newly elected CRA body expressed gratitude to the election committee and the press club, presenting a special commendation.

Sindh police chief IGP Riffat Mukhtar Raja congratulated the successful candidates of the Journalists Panel in the CRA’s annual elections 2023-24.
