Islamabad: The depressing concern of slanted and unprofessional policing is owing to the political appointment of the top cops against merit.

This is an established fact that every incoming government prefers to sign up docile, submissive, and ‘the yes boss’ police officers, ignoring educated, professionally strong, capable, and upright police officers. In other nous, the political governments themselves are responsible for hiking criminal activities in society by encouraging appointing corrupt, immoral, and criminal-minded officers to protect the wrongdoings of the politicians, not to serve the state.

When police heads are appointed on political considerations rather than their qualifications and experience, it can lead to a decline in the effectiveness of law enforcement. This is because politically appointed police heads may be more concerned with protecting the interests of the politicians who appointed them than with upholding the law and protecting the public.

Political appointments to pose power also cause an increase in corruption and unguided society. The people observe the poor performance of the politically appointed police chief against the merit, it can undermine their trust in the police. This can make it more difficult for the police to perform their job, as the public may be less likely to cooperate with them or provide them with information.

Such unprofessional police bosses fail to deliver their actual duty to enforce rule of law because implementation of the law is not enlisted in the policing preferences but they like better to please their political bosses by eroding the rule of law and the importance of merit. In those situations, when police fail to execute the law, the criminal mafia takes over the society and initiates establishing “the rule of criminals” when the law is not being applied fairly and impartially due to weedy and corrupt policing.

In addition to these specific problems, appointing police heads based on political favouritism can also cause a general decline in the morale and professionalism of the police force. This is because officers who observe that their superiors are being appointed based on political considerations rather than their qualifications and experience may feel that their own careers are not merit-based. This can lead to a decline in morale and a decrease in the quality of policing services.

Overall, such political appointments create serious predicament and crises within the police force with negative impact on law enforcement, public trust, and the rule of law, while, it is imperative to ensure public believe in police and policing. It is essential for improved governance to sign up capable, professional and honest police chief to obtain required upshots for the growth peaceful and crime free society.
