Victim mentality

This letter refers to the ‘Anti-Americanism: rhetoric and reality’ (November 23, 2023) by Husain Haqqani. It is an open contradiction that despite the fact that anti-Americanism prevails in the country, there are still long queues of people wanting to go to the USA. Aspirant students want to study in US colleges and universities and many people desperately employ all means to get US permanent residence and citizenship. Yet when it comes to searching for an enemy, the US tops the list.

Pakistan remains a nation which is a victim of the policies of the state, it appears that confusion is purposefully instilled in the minds of ordinary people and they simply just want to follow the pre-built narrative given to them by the governing elite. The feeling of being undermined all the time by imperialist forces should be eliminated as this has not been the case and certainly is not the case after US’ withdrawal from neighbouring Afghanistan.
