Parachinar rally demands peace, Internet restoration
PARACHINAR: The Pak Youth Movement and other local organisations rallied for peace and the revival of internet services in Kurram tribal district on Friday.
Representing diverse sections, the demonstrators converged at the Parachinar Press Club, while holding banners and placards.Mir Afzal Khan Turi, chairman of the Pak Youth Movement, stressed the need for tribal unity to overcome ongoing challenges.
“We will face destruction and ruin unless all tribes join hands for regional progress,” he said.Prof Jamil Kazmi criticised the government’s habit of suspending internet services, especially impacting education. He emphasized, “In this age of internet dependence, such actions significantly affect every aspect of life.”
Syed Sadaqat Hussain Miaan expressed concern over the complete internet blockade, deeming it “entirely illegal and unconstitutional.” He urged the government to focus on curbing terrorism rather than resorting to blanket internet suspensions.
Civil society activist Mahmoud Jan Turi termed road closures as acts of terrorism, urging the government to take action against such elements.
Rehan Ali Rehan, president of Pak Youth Movement students wing, demanded the government to lift road blockades and restore internet services. He called on the people of Kurram to contribute to regional peace, and said: “Bury the ambitions of external forces attempting to turn this beautiful valley into hell.”
Journalist Iqbal Hussain Iqbal and Tassawar Hussain, president of the United Students Council, echoed similar sentiments, urging the government to prioritise people’s protection and take immediate action for peace and internet restoration.
