Rise in terror
This refers to the editorial ‘Terror rising’ (Nov 5). It has highlighted the need to further strengthen ties with Kabul to exert maximum pressure on the administration there to stop assisting the TTP. The recent rise in attacks on military convoys and the Mianwali air base attack which was timely thwarted by our soldiers also remind us to review our security arrangements. A TTP offshoot ‘Tehreek-e-Jihad Pakistan (TJP) has claimed responsibility for the attack; this is a serious development. Our diplomatic efforts so far have failed to pursue the Afghan Taliban to control the TTP.
Pakistan’s decision to deport Afghan nationals has also not been received well and created more complications. There is an immediate need to revisit the existing security plan to make it foolproof. The solution lies in declaring areas with military installation as no-go zones for the general public.
