Character-building activities in UET

LAHORE:On the instructions of UET Vice-Chancellor, Prof Dr Habib-ur-Rehman, an alumnus of UET and trainer from John Maxwell Foundation (USA) in character building Abid Wazir Khan initiated character-building activities in UET Lahore.

According to a press release, initially, he will train faculty, and later faculty will pass it on to their students. In this way, all faculty and 15,000 students of UET will benefit. So far, the faculty of four departments of UET Lahore, including the Department of Civil Engineering, Institute of Environmental Engineering, Department of Chemistry, and Department of Transportation Engineering, have conducted the training. Now the faculty of each department will train their students accordingly.

Awareness seminar on human trafficking

An awareness seminar on combating human trafficking was held at the University of Okara (UO) under the patronage of Dr Ilyas Mahmood, Head, Department of Linguistics and Centre of Language & Learning.

According to a press release, the event was organised in collaboration with the United States’ Department of State and Sustainable Social Development Organisation (SSDO).

Syed Kausar Abbas, Executive Director of the SSDO, presented a detailed overview of various practices of human trafficking both within the state and across borders. He argued that women and children were the most vulnerable sections for trafficking.

Discussing the most common type of trafficking, he said, ‘Usually the traffickers trap youngsters in fake promises of employment. People tend to easily fall prey to this trap and lose money, honour and sometimes lives.”’ He also highlighted various legal frameworks that exist to cease the trafficking.
