Special courts
This refers to the article ‘Military courts’ (Oct 29) by Dr Farrukh Saleem. The writer supports military courts and has given examples from other countries. Every Pakistani citizen can be tried in military courts, depending on the nature of crime committed against the state. The dispute is ‘what’ crimes can be taken to military courts. These special courts otherwise are a favourite of people because they guarantee quick dispensation of justice
All facilities are given to the accused as in civil courts. Unfortunately our politicians have always failed to control themselves and, at times, crossed the red lines, thus opening up the option of military courts. If the selection of a special court for politicians is not selective, it will always be welcomed. We do have special courts like NAB courts, anti-terrorist courts, etc, and more special courts can be set up. What is more important is a fair and transparent selection of culprits, which is not based on political victimization.
