Security tightened in Islamabad

ISLAMABAD: The police, Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) and paramilitary forces and sensitive agencies have taken strict security measures ahead of Vice Prime Minister and Member of the Politburo of the Central Committee of the Communist Party He Lifeng's 3-day visit to Pakistan from July 30 to August 1 to attend the 10th-anniversary celebrations of China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), the Interior Ministry sources said.

As many as 50 high-tech cameras have been installed from Islamabad International Airport to high-security zone to watch any suspicious activity, the sources said and added that the high-tech cameras would be linked with the Safe City and monitoring rooms set up in the Ministry of Interior and security and intelligence agencies.

“The implementation of these new cameras is a crucial step towards maintaining law and order, effective monitoring, and safeguarding to avoid any untoward situation”, the police spokesman, mentioning IGP Islamabad, maintained. “The installation of these cameras aims to bolster the monitoring of routes from Airport to High-Security Zone”, a spokesman of a law enforcement agency said, adding, the high-tech cameras will be strategically positioned to cover critical areas, enhancing the overall surveillance network.

The Islamabad Capital Police urges citizens to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious objects or activities they may come across. In the interest of public safety, the police have made it easy to report such incidents by calling the emergency helpline Pukar-15.

Meanwhile, the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) of the Islamabad police have conducted search and combing operation in the localities marked by the intelligence agencies including areas falling in the jurisdiction of Tarnol, Sabzi Mandi, Secretariat, Noon and Sangjani Police Stations, the police sources said, adding, on the directives of IGP Akbar Nasir Khan, the search and combing operations are being conducted in different areas of the city to ensure the safety and security of the Islamabad. The search and combing operations are being conducted by the police with the help of CTD, FC, Rangers and other law enforcement agencies under the command of SP CTD.

During the search and combing operation 205 houses, 79 vehicles, 55 motorcycles, 107 shops, 10 hotels and 430 suspicious individuals were checked, while 63 suspicious individuals and 10 motorbikes were shifted to the police station for verification purpose.

IGP Islamabad Dr Akbar Nasir Khan said that the purpose of the search and combing operations was to heighten the security in the federal capital. All zonal officers were directed to continue these operations in their respective areas. Citizens are also requested to cooperate with police teams during the checking. The Islamabad Capital Police is actively engaged in ensuring the safety and security of the city’s residents.
