An elderly man was gunned down and four others were wounded in separate incidents of firing in different parts of Karachi on Sunday.

Police said that 70-year-old Hussain Deen, son of Jadoon, was shot dead in a firing incident in the Sachal area. His body was taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH).

Officials said the incident took place when unidentified motorcyclists opened fire on a rickshaw. SHO Zulfiqar said the deceased hailed from the Mansehra district but had been living in Karachi’s Haroonabad area in Baldia Town.

Police said the victim, along with his son and grandson, was on his way to Kaneez Fatima Society in a rickshaw when the helmeted assailants killed him, adding that the victim’s son and grandson remained unhurt in the attack.

Officials said that the incident might have occurred due to a personal enmity. They said the police have registered a case and launched an investigation.

Separately, 40-year-old Munir was wounded in a firing incident in Mansehra Colony that falls under the Sharafi Goth police station’s jurisdiction. The victim was taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC).

In another incident, a man identified as Shabbir Ahmed was wounded after a stray bullet hit him while he was on the roof of his house near the Jamali flyover in the Sohrab Goth area. He was taken to ASH.

In the Gulshan-e-Iqbal neighbourhood, 53-year-old Aslam Zia was wounded by the firing of unidentified motorcyclists. The victim was taken to the JPMC.

Similarly, 35-year-old Jamal Asif was wounded after unidentified persons opened fire on him in the Buffer Zone area. He was taken to ASH. Police said the incident took place as the victim resisted an attempt to mug him.
