Yadav’s disclosures

ISLAMABAD: The Foreign Office Thursday said the disclosures made by Indian spy Kulbhushan Yadav had vindicated Pakistan’s longstanding position on Indian state-sponsored terrorist activities on its soil.

In a weekly media briefing at the Foreign Office here, Foreign Office spokesman Nafees Zakaria said the confessional statement of the arrested RAW spy had exposed Indian designs and motives against Pakistan.

He said the statement also proved that the finances were provided by Yadav’s handler in RAW to carry out subversive activities in Pakistan. The spokesman said following the arrest of Kulbhushan Yadav, the Indian high commissioner was summoned at the Foreign Office and conveyed Pakistan’s protest and deep concern.

He said as the investigations progressed the international community was being briefed about the issue through Pakistan’s missions abroad. Earlier, he said Pakistan had been inviting the attention of international community on involvement of Indian state institutions in supporting terrorist activities on its soil.

Pakistan had also last year submitted dossiers to the United Nations and the US government containing information and evidence about Indian state-sponsored terrorism. To a question about the prospects of Pak-India foreign secretary level talks after the arrest of Yadav, he said the talks were quite comprehensive with eight different sectors to be discussed.

He recalled the statement of Indian External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj at the Hearts of Asia Conference in Islamabad where she had said that the comprehensive talks should not be linked with a specific incident.

The spokesman said Pakistan believed that dialogue was the best way to resolve issues. The spokesman condemned Sunday’s incident of terrorism in Lahore that killed more than 70 innocent people.

He expressed the government’s resolve to bring the perpetrators to justice and continue counter terrorism efforts. He expressed gratitude for the solidarity and support shown by the leadership of a large number of countries which he said was a source of strength in this hour.

Nafees Zakaria dismissed media reports labeling it as an attack targeting the Christians and said those who lost their lives were all Pakistanis. The spokesman said majority of people killed in the incident were Muslims and pointed out that the objective of terrorists was to exploit the situation.
