Siraj welcomes talks to end sit-in
LAHORE: Jamaat-e-Islami ameer Senator Sirajul Haq has welcomed the success of talks between the government and the leaders of those staging a sit-in in the federal capital, and stressed the government to honour its commitments with the protesters.
In a statement on Tuesday, he said, unfortunately, general impression among the masses was that the government had never cared for fulfilling its promises and added that the government had not fulfilled its promises to people made during the election campaign even after the lapse of three years.
JI chief stressed that implementation of the Islamic laws must be ensured and the rulers should abandon the talk of secularism and liberalism in the country. He appreciated the government assurance not to amend the Blasphemy law or of showing any leniency towards those guilty of blasphemy.
Meanwhile, Sirajul Haq accompanied by members of the sub- committee of Senate Development and Planning Committee, Senator Dr Khawaja Karim and Senator Mohsin Leghari, visited the area affected by the sea water in Sajawal.
During briefing, the committee was informed that the sea water had swallowed about two lakh acres of the area and the life of lakhs of residents of the area was under serious threat. Talking to local people, Sirajul Haq said there was urgent need for short-term as well as long term planning for saving the area from the sea water. He assured the local people that he would take up their problems in the Senate.
