PESHAWAR: A 28-year old woman gave birth to quintuplets at the Khyber Teaching Hospital on Saturday.

Belonging to Jamrud subdivision of Khyber Agency, the family brought the woman to the Khyber Teaching Hospital (KTH) on March 24 for treatment due to complications in pregnancy.

The doctors said she was physically weak and was suffering from serious pregnancy problems.

The doctors had to do major surgical procedures to save her life. She delivered five children, including four baby boys and one girl.

According to doctors, the woman was seven months pregnant and the children were born premature and were thus physically very weak.

One of the baby boys died Saturday morning and the second passed away in the evening.

The doctors said the third child was also not feeling well. “We are making every effort to save the lives of the remaining three babies,” one of the doctors said.

?As per history of the patient, it was her fourth delivery. She had given birth to three children through normal deliveries. From her previous deliveries, two of her children are alive while the third one has died.

KTH spokesman Farhad Khan said the hospital was providing medical support free of cost to the mother and her babies. He said the babies were kept under medical supervision of paediatricians.

He requested the print and electronic media to avoid visiting or taking pictures of the children and their mother as the family has requested that its privacy be respected.
