Islamabad: The conservationists have demanded of the government to introduce new chapters directly related to the conservation and preservation of the natural environment in the curriculum of the schools as part of the efforts aiming at coping with the growing challenges in this respect.
“Now there is a time to educate everyone especially our children to protect and preserve the natural environment to avoid disastrous situation in the future. Our children and youngsters have the potential to come up with strength and commitment to protect the natural environment,” said Shahid Abbas, a conservationist.
He said there is a need to create awareness among the coming generation that if they want a secure and safe future then the protection of the natural environment is a must otherwise its negative impacts may affect their lives in the coming years.
Shahid Abbas said the globally recognized environmental education for sustainable development (EESD) should be introduced in the educational institutions that would greatly help Pakistan come up with a strong response against challenges related to the natural environment.
He said active teaching learning methods in EESD involve students in the learning process such as discussions, writing, asking and answering questions and these activities in turn require students to use critical thinking skills such as analysis and evaluation.
