SHC dismisses petition against Afridi’s statement
KARACHI: Sindh High Court on Wednesday dismissed petition seeking action against Pakistan’s T20 skipper Shahid Afridi for his reported statement in India that green shirts team was loved more in India than in Pakistan after withdrawal by the petitioner.
Amir Nawaz, a lawyer, filed petition in SHC submitting that he heard a press conference of Pakistan’s T20 cricket team captain Shahid Afridi in India in which he said that Pakistani team was more loved by the Indian as compare to Pakistani people. He submitted that Afridi’s statement has hurt his sentiment being as patriotic Pakistani citizen. He said that no action has been taken by the ministry of sports and Pakistan Cricket Board over such remarks of Afridi, who is now in India, to represent Pakistan in the T20 world cup.
The petitioner submitted that Pakistani skipper was supposed to realize his responsibility as what place he was representing the country and what image will he portray in all over the world.
Citing ministry of sports , PCB and T20 captain Shahid Afridi as respondents, the court was requested to direct the PCB to restrain the Pakistani captain from holding press conference and take legal action against him for his reported statement in press conference held in India.
The court questioned maintainability of the petition and inquired petitioner how any order could be passed on Afridi’s statement. The lawyer later withdrew the petition and court dismissed the same as withdrawn.
Afridi, at a press conference at Kolkata, had said that he has not enjoyed playing anywhere as much as he has in India and the love they got in India is something that he will always remember and went on to say that we have not got this much love even from Pakistan.
