US, India to cooperate against Let, JeM
WASHINGTON: The US National Security Adviser and India’s Foreign Secretary met at the White House on Tuesday and agreed to deepen their collaboration against Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and Jaish-e-Muhammad (JeM). Both groups are deemed responsible for terrorist attacks in India.
The meeting between Indian Foreign Secretary Subrahmanyam Jaishankar and National Security Adviser Susan Rice was scheduled to review Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit and finalise preparations for the upcoming Nuclear Security Summit.
According to the statement issued after the meeting: “They also discussed US-India collaboration against Lashkar-e-Taiba, Jaish-e-Mohammed, and other terrorist threats.”Both the leaders also affirmed their commitment to deepen the bilateral on climate change, trade and defence, said NSC spokesperson Ned Price.
"Building on their leaders' commitment to make the US-India partnership a defining relationship for the 21st century, they agreed to deepen their already close collaboration on these issues," the statement said.
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif is expected to meet his Indian counterpart on the sidelines of the Nuclear Summit later this month. The US has been encouraging both the leaders to improve relations and restart bilateral dialogue process.
