Minister confines VC in washroom for hours
BAHAWALPUR: Punjab Minister for Cooperatives Malik Iqbal Channar on Monday allegedly stormed the office of vice-chancellor of The Islamia University of Bahawalpur, along with his aides and party workers.
He allegedly kept VC Prof Dr Qaisar Mushtaq confined in his office washroom for many hours, while his aides went on rampage and smashed the windowpanes of the university offices, and allegedly beat up the university employees.
According to the minister’s aides, the IUB VC had refused to meet him (minister) after making him wait for a long time at the PA’s office. This infuriated the minister, who called out his party workers to teach the vice-chancellor a lesson.
Reportedly, when the unfortunate incident took place, no official of the district administration, including the DCO and the divisional commissioner, bothered to intervene in the matter.
Later on, the minister came out of the VC office block and, without giving his version to the reporters present there, left for the commissioner’s office, along with his hundreds of supporters.
