Christian leaders of the city vehemently condemned Sunday’s attack on two community members in the Kausar Niazi Colony, within the Hyderi police limits, in which a church caretaker and his wife were shot and injured.

Naeem Maseeh, 40, caretaker of the VSK Church located in the area, and his wife Rozee Bibi, 32, were shot and injured in a gun attack that police have since described as “an intoxicated man’s random firing”.

However, Samuel Nazeer, a former councilor, said a drug peddler named Faizan had been trying to intimidate the community members over their strong opposition to his activities in the area.

He maintained that Faizan and his group were behind the attack and demanded the government take immediate action against the culprits.

Michael Javed, a former Christian parliamentarian, seconded his demand and urged the government to do all in its power to protect the community.

However, Zulfiqar Haider, SHO of the Hyderi police, stated that the attacker, Faizan, was intoxicated and opened random fire in the street which injured the Christian couple.
