Persian certificate launched

PESHAWAR: Iranian Consul General Mohammad B Beigi on Tuesday inaugurated Persian language certificate course at the Islamia College University (ICU). Director-General, Iranian Cultural Centre in Peshawar, Ali Yousefi, ICU Vice-Chancellor, Ajmal Khan, Persian language scholar, Prof Syed Ghayur Hussain and others were also present.
Man injured in Bannu blast

BANNU: A man sustained injuries when an improvised explosive device (IED) went off in the Janikhel area on Tuesday, official sources said.They said unidentified persons had placed an explosive device outside the house of Farooq. As he stepped out of the house, the explosive device went off, leaving him injured.The injured man was shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital in Bannu where his condition was stated to be stable. Following the incident, officials of law enforcement agencies reached the spot and collected evidence.The police registered a case and started investigation.
Afghan diplomat thanks Pak govt, army

PESHAWAR: Dr Abdullah Waheed Poyan, Consul General of Afghanistan, on Tuesday visited the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Peshawar and inquired after the health of an injured Afghan soldier.The Afghan diplomat thanked the Government of Pakistan and the Pakistan Army for providing the best medical treatment to the injured soldier Alam Zeb, said an Inter-Services Public Relations statement. The Afghan soldier had sustained injuries in an attack by terrorists on February 25 across the Pak-Afghan border in the Bajaur Agency. He was first taken to the Agency Headquarters Hospital at Khar and later shifted to the CMH Peshawar.
Four soldiers injured in SWA firing incident

WANA: Four soldiers sustained injuries when militants opened fire on them in the Zang Sar area in Sarwakai Tehsil in South Waziristan Agency (SWA), official sources said on Tuesday.They said the soldiers were on a routine patrol in the Zang Sar area in Sarwakai when the militants attacked them. “Four soldiers sustained injuries in the attack,” an official of the political administration told reporters.The injured soldiers were taken to the Ziari Noor Army camp where they were provided medical care.Security forces launched a search operation after the attack. They said four militants were also killed in an exchange of fire.
Police official killed in Kohat

PESHAWAR: A sub-inspector of the Police Training College, Kohat, was shot dead by two armed motorcyclists in Badaber on Tuesday.Police said sub-inspector Niaz Mohammad had come to Peshawar for some personal work and was returning to Kohat when two armed motorcyclists stopped the coach and opened fire on him. He sustained bullet injuries and succumbed to it.District Police Officer of Kohat Sohaib Ashraf said only proper investigation would determine the motive for the killing. A search operation was launched. Some locals said the incident seemed to be that of target killing as armed men stopped their car and targeted him. Police officials in Kohat said the slain cop had no enmity.

Three terrorists killed in North Waziristan
WANA: Three terrorists were killed in a retaliatory action by security forces in Zangi area of North Waziristan.Terrorists attacked Zangi check-post and three security personnel were injured in the attack. Security forces retaliated and killed three terrorists. Huge cache of arms and ammunition was recovered from their possession. The injured personnel were shifted to a hospital for treatment.

GUJRANWALA: Police recovered a three-year-old kidnapped girl and arrested an accused woman here. Unidentified people had abducted Zainab, daughter of Abdul Hameed, when she was playing in a street about seven days ago. On Tuesday, Dhulley police, on a tip-off, raided Varpal Chattha and arrested accused Razia while her husband managed to escape. Police also recovered the abductee from her custody.
Councillor injured in Charsadda firing incident

CHARSADDA: A district council member sustained injuries when unidentified gunmen fired at his vehicle in Shabqadar tehsil on Tuesday, official sources said.They said the district council member Ayaz Ali Sher was on his way to Charsadda from tehsil bazaar when unidentified fired at his vehicle near Depot Koroona on Peshawar Road, leaving him injured.He was shifted to a hospital in Shabqadar where he was provided medical treatment.The police registered case against unidentified persons and started investigation.

DERA ISMAIL KHAN: The police on Tuesday filed a case against an alleged rapist in Panyala area, police officials said.The victim girl (name withheld) told the reporters that she was returning home after attending the wedding of one of her relatives at night.She alleged that the accused Ilyas intercepted her and dragged her to a nearby male guest house in Banda Firoz area in Panyala. The girl alleged that the accused raped her.

FAISALABAD: Sargodha Road police on Tuesday registered the first case under the Women Protection Act against a man on a complaint of his wife. Madeeha Kashif of New Green Town reported to police that she had contracted marriage with Muhammad Kashif about eight years ago. She alleged that Kashif used to torture her without any reason. On Monday, accused Kashif again tortured her and shaved her head. She said that the accused also kicked her out of the house. Consequently, she went to the house of her parents at Ghulam Muhammadabad. A case has been registered under sections 354 and 337 of the Women Protection Act.

PAKPATTAN: On an order of the Lahore High Court, police have booked 11 people on the charges of abduction, rape and abortion. Rehana Bibi of Chak Dakhalli told the court that 11 accused, including Shaukat Ali, Sharifan Bibi and Meena Bibi, had abducted her on May 20, 2015. She said that the accused took her to the house of Sharifan and raped her. As a result, she became pregnant. On January 12, 2016, the accused took her to the house of Meena Bibi from the house of Sharifan where they got her aborted. On January 26, 2016, she escaped from their custody and reached the Darul Aman.
YDA to start protest from March 10

FAISALABAD: The Young Doctors Association (YDA) on Monday announced to start a protest in the province in support of their demands from March 10. According to the YDA programme, the YDA members would stage demonstrations and closed OPDs in Multan and other cities on March 10 while they would observe a complete strike and stage a sit-in in Faisalabad and Lahore on March 30. The young doctors demanded immediate increase in their salaries and implementation of revised service structure already approved by the Punjab government.
Landlord shot dead over petty issue

FAISALABAD: A landlord was shot dead over a petty issue on Tuesday. Accused Mujahid Ali and his accomplices allegedly shot dead Maqbool Ahmad of Chak 107 Chaudhry Wala. The motive behind the killing was stated to be an exchange of harsh words.
Four drug pushers held with narcotics

BAHAWALPUR: The CIA police on Monday arrested four drug pushers and recovered narcotics from them in separate incidents. The police during a crackdown on criminals raided and arrested our drug pushers and recovered 7kg charas and 156 foreign liquor bottles from them.
Injured market body member dies

ARIFWALA: Akmal Khan, a member of the market committee, passed away on Monday. He sustained head injuries in a road accident the other day. He was the father of advocates Ayesha Khan and Usman Khan. His funeral was held at the shrine of Baba Fareed and was buried at the Pir Sultan graveyard.

GUJRANWALA: The FIA arrested three persons and recovered huge foreign currency from them at the Sialkot International Airport. On a tip-off, the FIA raided the airport and arrested Irfan Altaf when he was about to leave for Sharjah. The FIA also recovered 180,000 Euros and 580,000 Dirhams from him. During preliminary investigation, the accused told the FIA that his two companions were present at the airport parking lot. To it, the FIA also arrested them. A case has been registered.

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court sought report from the federal government and Pemra on petition seeking a ban on TV plays made on crime stories.Petitioner said that the TV channels were showing plays based on crime stories which had negative effects on society. He said that it was making the youth sick and maniac. He sought a complete ban on showing such TV plays to save the society.
Two bodies found in Turbat
QUETTA: Levies force recovered two bodies of men from Balangoor area of Turbat district on Tuesday. According to Levies sources, working on a tip-off the team of Levies force reached the site and took both bodies into custody. The bodies were dumped after killing by unknown men in open area. The bodies were shifted to a nearby hospital's morgue for identification. Levies force has registered a case.
PIA aircraft performs evasive maneuver in Iran’s airspace
ISLAMABAD: An aircraft of Pakistan International Airlines had to perform evasive maneuvers due to close proximity of another airliner in Iran’s airspace, PIA spokesman on Tuesday said. In a written statement issued by a spokesman here in response to media queries it was confirmed that a PIA aircraft had to perform evasive maneuvers due to close proximity of another airliner in Iran’s airspace recently. Both the aircraft remained safe and no abrupt maneuvering was required. Iran’s ATC was immediately informed which directed the other air traffic accordingly, he said
Namaz-e-Janaza of Shaheed Lt-Col Tauqir offered
ISLAMABAD: Namaz-e-Janaza of Lt Col Tauqir who embraced Shahadat on Monday in a helicopter crash while landing at Tarbela was offered in the Chaklala Garrison on Tuesday.Chief of General Staff Lt Gen Zubair Mahmood Hayat, Corps Commander Lt Gen Malik Zafar Iqbal and other senior serving military and civil officers and relatives of the Shaheed officer attended the prayer. Shaheed Lt Col will be buried at his ancestral village in District Chakwal with full military honors
Six killed in Quetta separately
QUETTA: Six people, including two children, were killed in separate incidents in various parts of Balochistan on Tuesday. Three people were killed in an exchange of fire between two groups of a tribe over an old enmity in Goth Ismail area of Jhal Magsi. Meanwhile, two children, Shams Ullah and Sami Ullah, were killed during a petty quarrel between two families in the Satellite Town area of Quetta. Muhammad Asghar died during land-sliding in Kalat.
