PM dismisses FBR officer for inefficiency, corruption

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif has dismissed a Grade 21 officer of Inland Revenue Service (IRS) of the Federal Bureau of Revenue (FBR) for inefficiency and corruption.
A notification issued by the FBR on Friday evening said disciplinary proceedings were initiated against Muhammad Anwar Goraya (IRS/BS-21), presently posted as Accountant Member, Appellate Tribunal, Inland Revenue, Karachi, on charges of “inefficiency and corruption”.
The News broke stories of millions of rupees corruption in the FBR following which an inquiry was ordered against the accused officer. The notification said the prime minister appointed Ms. Nazrat Bashir, Managing Director Public Procurement Regulatory Authority, Islamabad, as the authorised officer.
Ms Nazrat appointed Kamran Ali Qureshi, Secretary Ministry of Science and Technology, Islamabad, as the inquiry officer.The inquiry report was furnished with the authorised officer on 13.1, 2014 holding the officer guilty of “inefficiency and corruption”.
Following the report, a notice was issued to the accused officer on 05.1, 2014 with the direction to show cause within seven days of the receipt of notice as to why a penalty, including the major penalty of dismissal from service, should not be imposed upon him.
The accused officer denied the charges and sought personal hearing which was granted by the authorised officer on 20.12, 2014.
After examining the case record, the authorised officer recommended dismissal of the officer from service under Rule 4(1) b(iv) of Government Servants (Efficiency and Discipline) Rules, 1973.
