New polio case surfaces in Quetta
QUETTA: A new case of polio virus was confirmed in a 30-month-old boy in Quetta's Samungli Road area on Tuesday, said Dr Syed Saif-ur-Rshman, Coordinator Emergency Operation Center (EOC) Balochistan.
It was the first polio case in Balochistan in 2016. The total number of cases reached to three in Pakistan in current year. Seven polio cases were reported in the whole Balochistan during the year 2015. The child is identified as Mohammad Ikram son of Juma Khan, resident of Samungli, a suburban area of the metropolis.
EOC Balochistan Coordinator Dr Saifur Rehman confirmed the polio case and said it is the first one in Balochistan. He said the polio virus are positive in Killa Abdullah, Balochistan where the polio campaign is conducted every month to eradicate it from Balochistan. He appealed the parents to help the polio workers whenever there is a campaign.
