Hindu extremist party Shiv Sena has threatened Pakistani actors Fawad Khan and Mahira Khan, Emirates 24/7 reported on Tuesday.
According to the report, senior Shiv Sena leaders have vowed not to let Mahira Khan (Raees) and Fawad Khan (Ae Dil Mai Mushkil) promote their films in Maharashtra.
"We have taken a stand not to allow any Pakistani actor, cricketer or performer to step on Maharashtra soil," Emirates 24/7 quotes Akshay Bardapurkar, a leader of Shiv Sena.
The latest threats by Shiv Sena come after the hardline group stormed BCCI headquarters on Monday prior to a meeting between Indian and Pakistani cricket officials. The meeting aimed at resuming cricketing ties between the two countries was cancelled.
Shiv Sena also threatened Pakistani umpire Aleem Dar to stop him from officiating in the ODI series between Indian and South Africia. Following the threat the International Cricket Council withdrew Dar from the series.
Pakistani cricketers Wasim Akram and Shoaib Akhtar who are providing commentary for the series will also return to Pakistan prior to the fifth and final ODI.
Last week, Shiv sena activists attacked Sudheendra Kulkarni, the organiser of a book launch in Mumbai for former Pakistan foreign minister Khurshid Kasuri, saying any engagement with Pakistan is unacceptable.
Earlier this month, threats from the extreme right-wing group led to organisers cancelling legendary Pakistani singer Ghulam Ali's show in Mumbai despite the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) assuring that the event would not be stopped.
