Claudia Jessie, who played Eloise Bridgerton in the hit Netflix series Bridgerton, gave insights into her character and Penelope Featherington’s "complicated" friendship.
In an interview with People Magazine, the 34-year-old actress reflected on Eloise and Penelope’s friendship status after her character learned that Penelope, played by Nicola Coughlan, was Lady Whistledown in the third season of the romance drama.
"I think for Eloise, this Penelope being Lady Whistledown and not telling Eloise is a betrayal," she laid bare, explaining, "The betrayal is so bog for Eloise, Eloise has been on a journey to try find Lady Whistledown."
"She sort of really idealised Lady Whistledown all in the presence of Lady Whistledown," she elaborated. "So I think she's really, really upset and embarrassed."
Recalling season three past one, Jessie shed light on Eloise's feelings, "A bit like the walls are closing on her, whilst she is deeply frustrated that her best friend or former best friend isn't telling the truth."
In addition, the first part of season three ends with another strain on their bond as Penelope becomes romantically involved with Eloise’s brother, Colin Bridgerton, played by Luke Newton. Penelope and Colin’s pair is affectionately dubbed as Polin.
Part two of season three will premiere on June 13 to unfold what happens next in Eloise and Penelope’s friendship bond after Polin's romance revelation.
