Anti-encroachment drive relaunched in Peshawar

PESHAWAR: The district administration on Wednesday re-launched anti-encroachment campaign in the provincial capital. Deputy Commissioner Peshawar Riaz Khan Mahsud during a meeting on Tuesday had ordered campaign against encroachments in all parts of the city.

Additional Deputy Commissioner Shahid Mehmud, Assistant Commissioner Altaf Sheikh, Additional Assistant Commissioner Abdul Nabi, ATOR Town-1 Ayaz Durrani and other staff supervised the campaign on Ashraf Road, Chowk Yadgar, Peepal Mandi, Qissa Khwani, Kabari Bazaar and Khyber Bazaar. They removed structures and arrested 19 people for their failure to vacate public properties despite repeated verbal reminders.

Additional Assistant Commissioner Fazeelat Jehan along with Director Peshawar Development Authority (PDA) Malik Najeeb Afridi, District Council member Humera Gilani and other staff members conducted the operations against encroachments in Hayatabad, Karkhano Markets and other adjoining areas.

The teams dismantled dozens of permanent and temporary illegal structures. Twelve people were taken into custody for interfering in the work of district administration during the campaign.

The administration had carried out a massive operation on the Kohat Road last year and reclaimed state property. However, the property was re-occupied illegally. Officials supervised the operation on the Kohat Road and dismantled dozens of illegal structures.
