KARACHI: Former Pakistan chief selector Salahuddin Ahmed Sallu believes that West Indies have the potential to beat Pakistan.
“Many people were expecting that it would be a piece of cake for Misbah-ul-Haq and his men to beat the West Indies in Tests,” Sallu told PPI. “But eighth-ranked West Indies made a strong comeback and lost the match by a narrow margin,” he added.
Sallu added that the brilliant caught and bowled dismissal of Darren Bravo by spinner Yasir Shah turned the match in Pakistan’s favour.
“This is the reason it is said in cricket that catches win matches,” he said.
“In the second innings, Pakistan put up a below-par performance,” he said.
Sallu praised Yasir and Wahab Riaz for bowling well in the second innings, saying the weather and pitch conditions were not in their favour.
“Normally, West Indies play attacking game, but in this Test they played the way South Asians play after losing some quick wickets,” he explained.
He further said that the return of Younis Khan would strengthen Pakistan batting line.
He warned Pakistan that there was no room for complacency since West Indies have shown that they have the potential to bounce back.
