Proposals to protect agri land
Islamabad
The government is reviewing proposals to protect and preserve agricultural land from conversion to other uses with the help of the provincial governments to achieve sustainable development in agriculture and livestock sectors.
An official said the proposals also focus on promoting organic farming, preventing soil degradation and restoring and improving degraded lands.
He said: “We will definitely coordinate with the provinces to promote integrated pest management and discourage indiscriminate use of agrochemicals; develop strategies and programmes to tackle desertification in line with the National Action Plan to combat desertification and droughts; and establish National Desertification Control Funds.”
The official said the provinces have already initiated some programme to encourage ecologically compatible cropping systems; enhance existing livestock production and improved management interventions.
