K-Electric’s Operation Burq against defaulters and power thieves continued achieving positive results on Friday, when KE teams along with Federal Investigation Agency and Rangers officials raided 75 areas and severed 2,500 more illegal connections.
The areas where action was taken included Orangi, Lyari, Federal B Area, Clifton, Bahadurabad, Saddar, Garden, Gulshan-e-Iqbal and Liaquatabad.
According to a press statement, around 2,500 illegal connections, weighing 642kg, were pulled down in different vicinities of the city.
Around 1,500 unauthorised connections were removed alone from Surjani and North Karachi in a recent massive Kunda removal drive.
During a recent raid in FB Area, officials severed illegal connections at a fitness club. In another raid, a fast food restaurant located in Gulshan-e-Iqbal was found involved in meter tempering while running a 18 Kw power line illegally through hook connections.
The team took immediate action against the restaurant and disconnected the power supply. Al Hira Society and Architect Society were caught red-handed in power theft. The culprits involved were taken into custody and a penalty was imposed on them.
Speaking about the operation, the KE spokesperson said, “Our operations against defaulters are transparent and indiscriminate. We aim to eliminate power theft completely in the city and anyone involved in this act regardless of their position will be charged with penalty.”
In addition to these raids and operation against power thieves and heavy defaulters, an Integrated Business Centre (IBC) Johar team also arranged a flag march activity in different areas to create awareness about power theft and its repercussions among residents.
