Office-bearers elected

The Reformers (Dr Shehryar Niazi Group) has won the elections of Young Doctors Association (YDA), Punjab’s Mayo Hospital chapter with a sizeable lead of 379 votes against Dr Matloob Mughal Group, during polls held in Mayo Hospital on Thursday.
The Reformers’ panel candidates including Dr Shehryar Niazi (chairman), Dr Faizan Tiwana (president) and Dr Mazhar Rafique (general-secretary) secured 752 votes against 373 votes obtained by Dr Matloob Mughal Group’s panel comprising candidates Dr Matloob Mughal (president), Dr Faraz Shah (vice-president) and Dr Nauman Rafi (general-secretary).
Earlier, the preparations for the elections were in full swing with candidates canvassing and banners and flexes studded the hospital. Around 1,200 young doctors used the right to vote.
After winning the elections, Dr Shehryar assured that they would strive for the rights of young doctors according to their manifesto and strengthen the trust of young doctors on Young Doctors Association, Punjab, by putting an end to hooliganism, extortion and corruption in Mayo Hospital.
Accidents
A total 537 road traffic accidents were reported in Provincial Monitoring Cell of Punjab Emergency Service (Rescue 1122) in all districts of Punjab during the last 24 hours; in which 10 lives were lost and 438 serious injured were shifted to different hospitals of relevant districts.
However, some 196 victims, who sustained minor injuries, were discharged on the spot. —Correspondent
