Weather turns chillier as KP receives rain, snowfall

PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtun-khwa on Wednesday received heavy rain while its mountainous areas were blanketed by snowfall, dipping the mercury and forcing the people in hilly areas of the province to remain indoors.

The heavy rain started in the provincial capital at noon, dropping the mercury level considerably. The sky remained cloudy early in the morning. However, thundering and heavy rain started after mid-day, which continued intermittently.

The low-lying areas in the city also came under water, creating problems for the inhabitants. The flow of traffic was disrupted on several roads that remained flooded at several points.

The situation was troubling at Lahori Gate, Nishtarabad, Gunj Gate, Nishtarbad, Gulbahar Chowk, and the roads under the Malik Saad Shaheed and Mufti Mahmood flyovers.

Several students were dropped late at homes as several school vans and buses broke down on the inundated roads. The problem was more severe on Dilazak Road. Drivers of several school vans were seen requesting fellow drivers to take their students to respective destinations.

The power supply to various areas in the provincial capital was suspended for four to five hours. “There is no light in our area for the last five hours,” said Fawad Khan, a resident of Gulberg.

Reports of power disruption were also received from other areas of the city, including Faqirabad, Zaryab Colony, Dilazak Road, Corporation Colony.

MINGORA: The new spell of rain and snowfall in Malakand division lowered the mercury on Wednesday.The temperature lowered in Malakand division after the rain and snowfall in upper parts of the mountainous region.
