In light of the recent attacks on education institutions, the Special Security Unit (SSU) held a training activity, Hostile Environment Awareness Training (HEAT), at the Jinnah University for Women on Tuesday.

Addressing the students and faculty, SSU SP Muhammad Muzaffar Iqbal said the SSU has been providing training to teachers, students, journalists and other individuals who might face terror threats to help them develop better defense mechanisms for such situations.

During the HEAT session, SSU commandos demonstrated mock drills in which they were able to overpower the terrorists by launching a crackdown. The audience was also told about the usage as well as protection of lethal and non-lethal weapons.

SP Iqbal mentioned that such activities were previously conducted at University of Karachi (UoK) earlier and shared that other institutions will also be getting the basic training by SSU.

He told teaching and non-teaching staff as well as students that everyone needed to keep themselves aware about precautionary measures during any unforeseen event. He also added that awareness of such measures can also help in foiling such nefarious activities and ultimately help ensure peace.

The training and awareness programme has been initiated in educational institutions by SSU Sindh chief Maqsood Ahmed with the objective of enabling students to deal with any hostile situation.

As has been the case at other demonstrations, the students showed keen interest during the session and asked questions about the usage of particular arms after a documentary based on SSU operations was shown.
