Workshop on ‘Role of ICT in Libraries’ held

Workshop on ‘Role of ICT in Digital Preservation Management in Libraries and Documentation Centers’ was jointly organised by Quaid-i-Azam University (QAU) and National Information and Communication Technology, Research and Development (ICT R&D) Fund, Ministry of Information Technology at DRSM Library, Quaid-i-Azam University Islamabad.

The objective of the workshop was to introduce and equip the library professionals with effective digital preservation management programmes based on ICT technologies.

While addressing the inaugural session, Wasim Hashmi Syed, General Manager, National ICT R&D Fund, highlighted the activities and objectives of National ICT R&D Fund. He said that Fund has taken up a challenging task of capacity building in the arena of ICT and nurturing it towards sustained development of an R&D culture in Pakistan. “Joint Industry-academia research is one of the key vehicles used to promote innovation in the ICT industry and to promote a research culture in the academic institutions of Pakistan,” he added.

Dr. Javed Ashraf, Vice Chancellor Quaid-i-Azam University (QAU), lauded the efforts of organisers and appreciated the initiative. He stressed the need that library professionals must learn new information communication technologies to deliver better services to the researchers and students in the digital age.

The resource persons of the workshop included Muhammad Anwar Ejaz, Chief Librarian Quaid-i-Azam University, Ms Bushra Almas Jaswal, Chief Librarian, FC College University, Lahore, and Ashraf Sharif, System Librarian, Agha Khan University, Karachi. A large number of library professionals from Rawalpindi and Islamabad participated in the workshop.
