Closed down in 2009, Bara Bazaar reopens today

BARA: The Bara Bazaar will be reopened for business activities today six and a half years after its closure.

Assistant Political Agent Bara Muhammad Arif told journalists at Khyber House on Thursday that the traders were shifting their businesses to Bara. He said the bazaar was closed in 2009 when the security forces launched operation against the militants in the area.

He said the government had established six checkposts at the entry and exit points of the bazaar and deployed the personnel of the security forces, Khassadar and Levies personnel there.

He stated that female cops would be also deployed on all the checkposts and closed circuit television cameras installed there.The official added that the political administration had issued cards to the traders for entering the bazaar while other people would have to produce their identity cards to enter the premises.

Muhammad Arif said the administration had set up a control room in Bara tehsil building for emergency situation and public could contact it at phone number: 091-5593121.“Bara Bazaar will be open from 8am to 5pm,” he said, adding that illegal businesses like sales of arms, hashish, alcohol and other contrabands would be banned.He said that barbed wires had been spread around the bazaar as part of security measures while terminals are being set up for light and heavy vehicles.
