AWKUM co-hosts conference on quality education in Karachi

PESHAWAR: The Abdul Wali Khan University, Mardan hosted a conference on the “Quality of Higher Education and the National Education Policy” in Karachi.

A press release said the event was arranged in collaboration with the Higher Education Commission, the Council of Pakistan Newspapers Editors and the Success Foundation Pakistan.

The universities in Karachi and rest of Sindh sat together with the Higher Education Commission (HEC) and the media to discuss an important issue.

HEC Chairman Dr Mukhtar Ahmad spoke to the gathering via a video link as he couldn’t reach Karachi due to non-availability of flights. The HEC Executive Director Prof. Dr. G. Raza Bhatti gave a presentation on the quality assurance policies, strategies and framework.   

Others who spoke on the occasion included Dr Muhammad Ali Sheikh, Vice Chancellor Sindh Madrassatul Islam University, Dr. Sadrudin Pardhan, Adviser Agha Khan University, Prof Dr Shahana Urooj Kazmi, Rector Dadabhoy Institute of Higher Education, Dr. Arshad Saleem, Vice Chancellor Shaheed BB University Shaheed Benazirabad, Prof. Dr. K.B. Mirbahar, Vice Chancellor SBB University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Professor Dr. Akhtar Baloch, Vice Chancellor Benazir Bhutto Shaheed University Lyari Karachi, Dr. Altaf Hussain, Vice Chancellor Nazir Hussain University Karachi and several other Vice Chancellors spoke at the conference.

The British Council Director for Sindh and Baluchistan provinces, Mr Robin Devies was another key speaker at the conference.

Shiraz Paracha, Director of Quality at the AWKUM, informed the audience about the security situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and how it was affecting the education sector in the province.
