Mujahid appointed acting PU VC for interim period

LAHORE

Higher Education Department (HED), Punjab on Thursday, assigned look after charge of Punjab University (PU) Vice-Chancellor (VC) to Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran as his tenure as regular incumbent completes on Friday (today). The Punjab government is currently in process of selecting VCs for four public sector universities including Punjab University. The other varsities are Lahore College for Women University (LCWU), University of Sargodha and Muhammad Nawaz Sharif University of Engineering & Technology, Multan. 

The VC Search Committee has already completed the interviews of shortlisted candidates and has also sent a panel of three candidates for each varsity to the chief minister for final approval of one candidate for each varsity.

Sources said the panel for the PU includes Dr Mujahid Kamran, Zafar Iqbal Jadoon and Dr Zakria Zakir. The panel for LCWU comprises Dr Rukhsana Kausar, Dr Uzma Quraishi and Dr Shahida Hasnain while for University of Sargodha, the panel comprises Dr Tahir Kamran, Dr Ijaz Ahmed and Dr Izhar Hussain. The panel for Muhammad Nawaz Sharif University of Engineering & Technology, Multan includes Dr Shahid Munir, Prof Dr Zubair Ahmed and Prof Dr Aamir Ijaz. However, this could not be confirmed till filing of this report. 

Meanwhile, Punjab University Academic Staff Association’s President Prof Dr Hasan Mobeen Alam and Secretary Dr Mahboob Hussain have lauded the government for appointing Dr Mujahid Kamran as Acting Vice-Chancellor for the interim period. In a press release, they said the VC had depoliticised the university and expressed the hope that Dr Kamran would be appointed for the next tenure in acknowledgment of his landmark services for bringing PU to the new heights of excellence.

Workshop: A Two-Day capacity building workshop, organised by the Punjab Healthcare Commission for homeopathic practitioners on the implementation of Minimum Service Delivery Standards (MSDS) to improve the quality of their services and safeguarding high standards as a right of the patients, concluded at a local hotel on Thursday.

According to a press release, more than 70 homeopathic practitioners attended the workshop who were imparted information on safety management, quality assurance, care of patients, management of medication and infection control.

Dr. Majid Lateef, Additional Director PHC, Dr. Mukhtar Ahmad Awan and Jameel Akhtar Ghori, Consultant Homeopath, were the resource persons. The Punjab Healthcare has already held 44 similar workshops attended by a total number of 1790 homeopathic practitioners with an aim to promote high quality, safe and efficient healthcare service delivery for all.
