CM orders arrangements for monsoon

Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has directed that all necessary arrangements should be made in advance to cope with monsoon season and possible floods.

He said the departments concerned should remain alert, and the provincial and federal institutions should work in a coordinated manner. He said that best arrangements should be made this year.

According to a handout issued here on Saturday, the chief minister directed the  departments and institutions concerned to perform their duties with effective coordination. He said that Cabinet Committee on Flood should keep a close contact with Meteorological Department and obtain the latest information regarding weather situation on daily basis.

The chief minister ordered that construction and repair work of embankments be completed as soon as possible. He said that he would monitor the precautionary arrangements against monsoon and possible flood. He ordered that Health Department should stock medicines in abundance especially anti-venom vaccine for the treatment of snakebite.

He said that Civil Defense organisation should remain active to meet any untoward situation. He said that inspection of embankments and spurs should be completed at the earliest and the cabinet committee should take indiscriminate action against those who illegally caused breaches in embankments. He directed that modern methods be adopted to strengthen embankments and spurs while de-watering sets should be in the working condition.

Child labour: Shahbaz Sharif has said that training, education and proper care of children is essential for the progress and prosperity of the country.He said that it was a collective responsibility of society to play their due role in elimination of child labour and grooming of children.

He said that complete eradication of child labour was mission of the government and no effort would be spared in this regard.

According to a handout issued here Saturday, in a message on World Day against Child Labour, the chief minister said that the purpose of observing this day was to rid the children of child labour and provide them with maximum opportunities of education so that a bright future could be ensured to them.  He said that Punjab government had undertaken effective legislation for curbing child labour and took comprehensive measures for this purpose. He said that Punjab had taken lead over other provinces with regard to legislation against child labour and its effective implementation.

Shahbaz Sharif said that a vigorous campaign was continuing successfully for elimination of child labour from industrial and trade organisations especially brick kilns. He said child labour had almost been curbed at brick kilns in the province. He said, owing to this step of Punjab government, the trend of child labour at hotels, workshops, petrol pumps and factories was decreasing and it was hoped that it would soon be rooted out. He said that all possible resources were being made available for the education of the children of those working at brick kilns. He said that efforts for elimination of child labour were a form of worship and there was a need to work as a team for achievement of this objective. 

The chief minister said that World Day against Child Labour demanded that all segments of society play their due role in eliminating child labour.
