Wheat output up
FAISALABAD: Director Adoptive Research Punjab Masood Qadir Waqar said the wheat production has witnessed two percent increase as compared to yield of the previous year despite all environmental odds and hazards.
Addressing a meeting at Ayub Agriculture Research Institute (AARI) on Monday, he said wheat was cultivated over 17.075 million acres of land in Punjab during the previous year whereas this year 17.143 million acres of land was brought under wheat cultivation across the province.
Although most parts of the Punjab witnessed unfriendly climate as severe rains hailing coupled with wind and thunder storms have affected the wheat crops yet the overall production of wheat in this province witnessed two percent increase as compared to the production of previous years.
The meeting also discussed wheat plan for 2016/17 and vowed to woo the farmers to cultivate wheat crops at maximum area during next season.
