PESHAWAR: The Khyber Medical College Foundation in its fundraising dinner raised Rs12,46,000 to help deserving and talented students of the medical college.

The foundation was established for providing financial support to deserving KMC students in their admission fee, books and hostel expenses.

It is also providing financial assistance to children of KMC employees.

The purpose of the fundraising dinner was to create public awareness among the society and attract philanthropists to come forward and help those talented medical students who don’t have the resources to become a doctor.

KMC is the first prestigious medical college of the province, where students with top merit are given admission, and some of the students though are exceptionally talented can’t afford their expenses. It was a group of the KMC doctors who came to know about financial hardships of the students when Dr Noorul Iman was principal of the college.

In 2014, the foundation helped 96 students by providing Rs20,000 to each student to pay their tuition fee.

Around 23 students were given Rs30,000 each from zakat fund to pay their tuition fee and other expenses.

The foundation has a total of 98 members, some of them in the country and some are overseas.

A former principal KMC, Prof Noor Ul Iman is chairman of the foundation.

The KMC Foundation has devised a strategy to help deserving students of the medical college complete their students with  dignity and self-respect. Neither the donors know the students they are paying nor have the students any idea about identity of their sponsors.
