ATC extends Rahim Swati’s physical remand till May 30

An anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Thursday extended the physical remand of the key accused of Perween Rahman murder case, Rahim Swati, till May 30.

Arrested on May 7 in Manghopir area, Rahim Swati was earlier produced in the court on May 9.

The Investigation Officer (IO) told the court that the accused had been a former councillor and a local leader of the Awami National Party (ANP).

The IO further said the accused had admitted to killing the known philanthropist and the Orangi Pilot Project’s (OPP) director on March 3, 2013, along with his associates.

The court was told that the motive of the murder was to occupy two acres of land owned by the OPP.

While granting a 10-day remand, the court had directed for the accused to be produced in the court after the remand period had expired.

Now, on the request of the IO, the court has extended the remand till May 30.

The special police team formed, on Supreme Court’s directives, to arrest Swati was led by SP Orangi on orders of DIG West Feroz Shah. According to the statement issued by the police following his arrest, Swati had changed at least eight cell phones, SIM cards registered under his name; all of them were, however, not in use.
