Pak teams record emphatic wins in ACBS Team Event

KARACHI: Both Pakistani outfits got off to a winning start in the ACBS Team Event Snooker Championship 2016 which commenced in Abu Dhabi on Monday.

According to the information made available by the Pakistan Billiards & Snooker Association (PBSA), Pakistan-1, comprising Mohammad Asif and Asjad Iqbal, won both their matches on the opening day, while Pakistan-2, composed of Mohammad Bilal and Babar Masih, also emerged victorious in their first couple of outings.

Asif and Asjad came from behind to outwit Iraq 3-2 in their opening game with the frame scores of 16-59, 78-14, 83-14, 38-59, 61-23.

They defeated the United Arab Emirates (UAE) 3-1 with the scores of 79-38, 32-64, 107-54, 75-1.

Bilal and Babar, combining as Pakistan-2, came up with even more emphatic performance, trouncing both their opponents in straight frames.

They began their campaign by whipping Saudi Arabia 3-0 with the frame scores of 77-32, 78-44, 68-33 before meting out similar treatment to Bahrain with the scores being 61-59, 56-15, 56-34.

Pakistan-1 will be pitted against Malaysia in the third and final league match, while Pakistan-2 will be concluding the first round campaign with a fixture against Iran-1.

The preliminary round will conclude on Tuesday (today). The knockout phase will start with the quarter-finals on Wednesday (tomorrow). The final will be played on Thursday.
